My name is Monica Christiaansen and I have been J. Michael Mahoney's personal assistant since January 1997, when he sent me his first type-written page for the start of his book, "Schizophrenia-The Bearded Lady Disease." I met him while serving as personal assistant to his mother, Florence S. Mahoney, widely credited with the founding of the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Washington, D.C..
